WEBSITE UPDATE – 1st January 2020

It is now just over 15 years since we set up this website and we hope viewers will continue to find the content fascinating to all those interested in the artists.

The Examples of the artists works has not been increased of recent date to save costs and because the purpose is simply to provide examples of the artists’ works. rather than a comprehensive record.

COPYRIGHT AGENCY AND APPLICATION PROCESSING

The Trustees of The Estate of Dame Laura Knight DBE RA RWS have decided that effective 1st January 2020 to move the Copyright administration of processing the consent to reproduce the artists’ works to Bridgeman Art Library, who have offices in London, New York, Paris Berlin and Rome. www.bridgemanimages.co.uk

2020 is the 50th Anniversary of the artists death and to commemorate such date it is hoped that Public Galleries and Museums will take opportunity to exhibit the works of the artists held in their own collections.

It was hoped that the Castle Museum Nottingham would participate in the anniversary celebrations by following the Penlee House 2020 exhibition, but unfortunately the restoration work at the NCM will now be further extended to the Spring of 2021.

EXHIBITIONS

28th April – 11th September 2021 – Penlee House and Museum, Penzance, Cornwall will hold a Celebration Exhibition to commemorate 50th Anniversary of the death of Dame Laura Knight. The Objective of the exhibition will be to demonstrate the diversity of the artists skills with emphasis of works held in Private hands not generally seen by the public for a number of years.

1st February to 1st November 2020 – Pannett Gallery, Whitby Yorkshire will hold an exhibition to commemorate 50th Anniversary of the death of Dame Laura Knight. The Objective of the exhibition will be to demonstrate the diversity of the artists skills with emphasis of works held in Private hands not generally seen by the public for a number of years.

A further exhibition of Dame Laura Knight’s works is planned to be held in 2021 at the Milton Keynes Gallery following that of the above Penlee Exhibition. Dates will be advised shortly.

BOOKS

REPRINT of Dame Laura Knight’s Autobiography OIL PAINT AND GREASE PAINT, 1st printed 1936.

Unicorn Press will reprint the artists autobiography to coincide with the opening of the Laura Knight exhibition to commemorate 50 years since her death at Penlee House and Museum, Penzance on 28th April 2021.

ART PUBLIC CHARITY WORK

The artists were passionate supporters of The Artists’ General Benevolent Institution, (AGBI) whose objectives are to assist UK artists and their widows/ers in old age, accident or serious illness and the Artists Orphan fund whose objectives are to support and educate UK artists’ orphans. In consequence 20% of all artist Copyright and fees are donated to this charity.

As at 5th April 2019 the AGBI financial Accounts identified that The Trustees of the Estate of Dame Laura Knight as being the 3rd largest donator and the 2nd largest donator in the last financial year 2018/2019.
