Depicts the interior of the costume wardrobe at
Stratford on Avon .
In 1947 the artists great friend Barry Jackson
Commissioned the artist to paint at his theatre in Birmingham. At the time it became the project for the artist to paint theatre
scenes to put out of her mind the vivid scenes of the War Trials commissions she had completed in 1946; such scenes had made
a big impression on her, the devastation and horrors of war.
The artist went on to paint many works at Stratford in 1948 i.e. Theatre Prop Basket, Jester, Theatre Wardrobe all exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1948.
