known Laura Knight ballet scenes were painted after
The First World War. In consequence this work has a
The work is in all probability Le Carnival Tempera
shown at the 21st exhibition of the International
Society in the autumn of 1916.
On centre stage is depicted Lubov Tchernicheva
and Stanislow Idjikawski and whilst it is hard to
distinguish the supporting performers, the two
ballet dancers are in all probability Cecchetti the
famous “Maestro” and Woizikawski; and the
ballerinas probably include Karsavina, Nijinska
( Nijinski’s sister) and Sokolova.
