Fred Mayor (1866-1916) Studied at Acadarmie Julian for just over 4 years. He moved to Staithes in 1898 where he shared lodgings with Arthur Friedensen and Harold Knight at Mr and Mrs George Porritt’s in Gutter Lane.
Elected a founder member of Staithes Art Club at the same time as Harold Knight in 1901.
In 1902 he eloped to London to marry Hannah Hoyland, daughter of a wealthy Sheffield brush manufacturer who had a summer house in Runswick Bay. Hannah also an artist and became a member of the Staithes Art Club in 1902.
Harold remarked to his wife, that his good friend Fred had an uncanny likeness to his sister in laws husband Robart Croft to the extent that they could almost be twins.
