Depicts one of the nurses at the John Hopkins Hospital;, Baltimore USA
The artist left London just before Christmas 1926 for the second time to visit USA to join her husband Harold Knight, who was at the time completing various portrait commissions in and around both Chicago and the Eastern seaboard States of America.
The Knights stayed with their friend s William S Baer the orthopedic surgeon at The John Hopkins Hospital for several months, and he gave the artist consent to roam and paint throughout the hospital, but the artist preferred to concentrate on the patients in the segregated American negro wards.
Laura became friends with William Baer’s ( Bill) secretary Irene and her sister Pearl who was a nurse at the same hospital.
